TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Quebec, June 7, 2011 – The Forges du Saint-Maurice National Historic Site, in collaboration with the foundry hall of the Centre de formation professionnelle Qualitech, invites the public to take part in a unique experience with "Just Like the Iron Masters." The activity will be held on June 24 and 25, July 8, 9, 10, 22, 23 and 24, and August 5, 6 and 7 at 10 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 10 a.m. on Sundays, rain or shine.
Participants will have the opportunity to experiment the work of the apprentice moulder as it was once practiced. They will be initiated to ancestral moulding techniques and will put their shoulders to the wheel to prepare a mould that will hold the molten metal. At the end of the activity, participants will take home their moulded work as proof of their acquired know-how.
The activity, which lasts about one and a half hours, costs $12. The price does not include site access fees. Participants must be 10 years and up and reserve their place, as groups are limited to 10 people.
