TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Quebec, June 3, 2011 – The Forges du Saint-Maurice National Historic Site wishes to inform the public that a day camp will be held in its facilities. Twice this summer, children 6 to 12 years old will have the chance, for one week, to live to the rhythm of New France thanks to camp Il était une forge…
Wearing traditional costumes, children will go back in time and participate in many interactive activities like a moulding workshop for novices, iron forging, archaeological digs, wool spinning and the creation of a herbarium. They will also discover and try out ancestral crafts, mainly those related to transforming metal. Every day, children will create objects that they can bring home. During the week, they will also visit Mauricie National Park.
The day camp will be offered July 18 to 22 and August 1 to 5, Monday to Friday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., at the cost of $122. Note that the same activities are offered both weeks. An optional day care service will also be offered to parents at an additional cost. Since places are limited, it is important to register as soon as possible by filling out the form available on our Website, at www.pc.gc.ca/forges, under the "activities" tab. This year, Parks Canada celebrates its centennial as the oldest national park network in the world. A number of activities are planned to mark the hundredth anniversary. Be part of the celebration!
