Transportation and driving
Maximum speed on highways is 100 km/h, between 70 and 90 km/h on other major roads and between 30 and 50 km/h in towns and cities. Turning right on red is now permitted throughout Quebec except on the island of Montreal and at certain intersections, where indicated. It is mandatory for all occupants of a motor vehicle to wear seatbelts.

Taxes and gratuities
Two taxes, Provincial Sales Tax (PST) and the Federal Goods and Services Tax (GST), are added to the sales price of most products and services. A number of regions have also levied a specific accommodation tax. This ranges from $2-3 per night or 3% of the cost of a room per night, before PST and GST. In restaurants, bars, taxis and at hairdressers, it is usual to leave a gratuity (tip), not included in the bill, representing between 10 and 15% of the amount of the invoice before tax.
Electrical current
Like the rest of North America, the current in Quebec is 110 volts (60 cycles). However, as power outlets will not accept foreign plugs, an adaptor may be required.
